Community Development

Project Etango

This is a community upliftment project initiated by Namibia Diamond Trading Company. The three centres established to date continue to operate soundly and remain in good condition. In Rundu a daily feeding program has been established and an Early Childhood Development Pre-School started in January 2008 - more than 60 children are enrolled. Another container for an additional classroom has been identified as an urgent need. In November 2007 a 3-day weekend camp event where 140 children attended was held, as well as training on nutritional garden was also completed during the same period.

In Keetmanshoop the centre became operational as of the beginning of November 2007. Daily feeding programmes running seven days a week, Kids and Youth Clubs including camps addressing Life Skills and HIV/AIDS prevention, Early Childhood Development and nutritional gardens were some of the activities for 2008.

Activities for 2008:

  • Establishment of centres in Windhoek, Katima Mulilo, Opuwo, Gobabis and the Ohangwena region.

Far North Championships

Launched in 2004, the Old Mutual Far North Championships were introduced in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture. Since inception, the championships have been successfully executed and welcomed by the participating schools in the Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Oshana and Omusati regions. Once again, additional prizes were sponsored by Nashua (photocopy machine) and Business Connexions (Notebook).
