On 5 May 2020, Old Mutual delivered food parcels to the value of N$94 387.20 (Ninety-Four Thousand, Three Hundred and Eighty Seven Dollars and Twenty cents) that will benefit 160 individuals in the vulnerable communities of Keetmanshoop, Karasburg, Rosh Pinah, Kosis and Koës. The handover took place at the Keetmanshoop State Hospital in the //Karas region.
To honour its commitment of N$5 million towards restraining the spread and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, Old Mutual has set strategic measures in place to assist communities in need of food and nutritional support. The food parcels that were delivered in the //Karas region today, serves as the third regional rollout by Old Mutual after Khomas and Erongo.
Old Mutual Keetmanshoop branch manager, Bernhardt Vries who led the handover said “As we know, the residents of the south lives in a semi-arid desert area and are mostly depended on tourism activities, while many are suffering due to poverty, unemployment and many other social ills. ”Mr Vries further stated that the food parcels will benefit 65 individuals in Keetmanshoop, 25 in Rosh Pinah, 20 in Khosis, 20 in Koës and 30 in Karasburg. In his conclusion, Mr Vries extended his appreciation to the media for keeping the public informed of Old Mutual’s implementation progress as they pursue the speedy delivery of this food relief to ensure that our fellow countrymen and women in need truly benefit from the pledge.
Receiving the consignment in the //Karas region, Governor Aletha Fredericks expressed her profound gratitude towards Old Mutual for the much needed food donation. She then promised that it will reach the intended beneficiaries accordingly, whilst urging other corporates to follow suit as a means of meeting government halfway in its efforts to address the needs of the less fortunate in the country. “The lesson we have earned from Covid-19 is that we as humans should be there to assist one another at all times,” she added.
The first consignment of frozen and dried food as well as necessities was delivered in the Khomas region on 8 April 2020 with a value of N$ 208 000 (Two Hundred and Eight Thousand Namibia Dollar). The second delivery to the value of N$ 136 848.93 (One Hundred and Thirty-Six Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Eight and Ninety-Three cents) was handed over on 30 April 2020 in Omaruru and Spitzkoppe in the Erongo region, respectively. This brings Old Mutual’s pledged N$1 million of the N$5 million for food parcels to N$ 439 236.13 (Four Hundred and Thirty-Nine Thousand, Two Hundred and Thirty-Six and Thirteen cents) to date.
