24-07-2020 - Omusati is the 7th region to benefit from the Old Mutual food relief support directed at assisting vulnerable communities during Covid-19
On 23rd July 2020, Old Mutual delivered food parcels to the value of N$115 700 (One Hundred and Fifteen Thousand Seven Hundred Namibia Dollar) that will benefit 250 households in the Omusati region. The handover took place at the Omusati Regional Council Community Hall in Outapi, marking Old Mutuals’ support to the 7th region in the country as part of its Covid-19 Food Outreach.
In March this year, Old Mutual made a commitment of N$5 million towards COVID-19 prevention efforts of which N$1 million was set aside for food supplies to benefit affected vulnerable individuals and communities across all the 14 regions in our country.
The office of the Regional Governor for Omusati in conjunction with the National Health Emergency management Committee have identified individuals in all twelve constituencies of the region that are in dire need of basic food items to benefit from this donation. This brings the total value of Old Mutual’s Food Outreach nationally to N$ 728 224 (Seven Hundred and Twenty Eight Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty-Four Namibia Dollar), supporting over 1798 individuals in 7 regions thus far.
During the handover, Old Mutual National Sales Manager Northern region, Ruben Nikanor stated that “as a responsible and caring business that has been serving Namibians for the past 100 years, Old Mutual will continue to fulfil its commitment as a certain friend in uncertain times”. He noted that Omusati region is well known for its reliance on agriculture activities specifically mahangu cultivations for its livelihood but like other regions, many people are suffering due to poverty, increasing unemployment and other social challenges. Mr Nikanor further extended his appreciation to the Governor’s Office and National Health Emergency management Committee who have played an important role in identifying nutritionally balanced food parcels and handling the storage and distributing process responsibly.
Also in attendance at the handover event was Hon. Andreas Shintama, Chairperson of the Omusati Regional Council, who received the donation on behalf of the Omusati regional Governor Hon. Erginus Endjala who extended a word of gratitude to Old Mutual on behalf of the people of Omusati.
Old Mutual will continue with the roll-out plan in the remaining 7 regions in the coming weeks, in consultation with the lead Ministry’s National Health Emergency Management Committee as our key partner.
